Melania on Thursday spoke out against social media bullying in her first campaign speech since the Republican National Convention. And though the context of her speech was mostly geared toward protecting children and teenagers from online abuse, her words could just as easily have been directed at some of her husband's most outspoken supporters.

"As we know now, social media is a centerpiece of our lives. It can be a useful tool" she said in Pennsylvania. "But like anything that is powerful, it can have a bad side.”

A recent study conducted by a researcher at George Washington University showed that many Twitter users who identify with Nazi and white nationalist movements also adore Donald Trump.

His followers are able to warp social media so much that they've managed to turn a cartoon frog -- Pepe -- into an official symbol of Nazi-style hate.

Anti-Semitic Trump supporters have created an online campaign to harass Jewish reporters on Twitter, labeling them with a series of parentheses around their name meant to mimic the sound of an ominous echo.

And it's not hard to argue that Trump himself is a huge proponent of online bullying. Many, many, many of hits tweets include insulting nicknames for political rivals both past and present.

Maybe Melania knows this, or maybe she doesn't spend enough time on Twitter and other social media to have a good grasp of the issue. Her last tweet posted on Oct. 13, and that was her only one of the month.
